Jakarta Election Debate to Discuss Women, Drugs, Among Others

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Three Jakarta gubernatorial candidates will join the third gubernatorial debate on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 7:30-10 pm Jakarta time. The General Election Commission (KPU) Jakarta Office has named Bidakara Hotel in South Jakarta as the venue.
The debate will be aired by 12 local television channels. Each of the candidate pair will be guarded by 100 cops.

The topics to be adopted in the debate are demographic issues and improvement in standard of living of Jakarta residents. "With sub-topics of women empowerment, child protection, war on drugs and disability friendly [programs]," KPUD Jakarta chairman Sumarno said yesterday.
Gubernatorial candidate profiles:
Candidates No. 1
Agus Harimurti and Sylviana Murni
Endorsers: the Democratic Party, the United Development Party (PPP), the National Mandate Party (PAN) and the National Awakening Party (PKB).
Candidates No. 2
Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat
Endorsers: the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the Functional Group (Golkar) Party, the National Democratic (Nasdem) Party and the People's Consciousness (Hanura) Party.
Candidates No. 3
Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno
Endorsers: the Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party and the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).
Debate topics: demographic issues and improvement in standard of living
Moderator: Alfito Deannova Ginting, CNN Indonesia anchor
Debate sessions:
- Session 1: Gubernatorial candidate pairs to convey vision, mission, and work programs.
- Session 2: Panelists to pose questions to candidate pairs about their vision and mission.
- Session 3: Panelists to pose questions to each candidate pairs with regards to problems faced by the capital city.
- Session 4: Each candidate pair to ask questions to each other.
- Session 5: All candidate pairs will debate with each other.
- Session 6: Each candidate pair to convey their respective closing statements.
Terms and conditions:
- Each candidate pair is allowed to bring into the venue 100 supporters only.
- No campaign signs or noisemaking to cheer allowed.
- Each candidate pair is banned from expressing sensitive issue, such as ethnicities, religion and race during the gubernatorial debate.
